Each year, Transit Weekend provides our students an opportunity to invite their friends to an outreach event designed specifically for middle school students. By hosting a group in your home, you will play a vital role in our mission to lead students into a growing relationship with Christ.

Transit Weekend 2024 will take place:
February 9th – 11th at Southside Church Peachtree City

Here are some important things to consider before signing up to be a Host Home:

You will need to prepare food for two breakfasts and have snacks available during the weekend (Southside will reimburse your expenses). Here is a sample menu – nothing fancy!
You may be asked by the small group leaders to help with transportation throughout the weekend.
Your student should not stay in their bedroom. They should feel like they are away for the weekend even though they are in their own house.
Anyone in the home over 18 must complete and pass a background check. We also ask that any high school-aged students not have friends spend the night, and we ask that you not invite other adults over to your home during Transit Weekend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are There Any Requirements To Be A Host Home?

We ask that anyone staying in the home that is over the age of 18 to submit to and pass a standard background check. We also ask, that no guests stay in the home the weekend of Walking Wisely. Please do no allow your high school aged students to have friends over while middle school students are staying in the home.

Where Should All Of These Kids & Leaders Sleep?

You may be wondering, Where should I put all of these kids and leaders? You’d be amazed at how many kids can and will want to pile into one room! The leaders should sleep in the room with the kids to keep an ye on them, so don’t worry if you don’t have a guest room. They don’t need it!

How Do I Prepare My Home For The Weekend?

We suggest removing any irreplaceable items, potentially dangerous items, movies with ratings of PG-13 and above, alcohol, and “questionable” items. Basically, if you’re wondering if you should remove something, you probably should.

Do I Participate In Small Group Time While Students Are In My Home?

No. This is a vital time when small groups bond and cultivate community, so we ask that you and your family not participate during this time and that you allow the group to meet without you present.

Do I Have To Attend The Sessions on Friday & Saturday Night?

You may be needed to help with transportation on Friday night. Your small group leader will coordinate this with you. If you are interested, we would like to invite you to come to our late-night worship session, which starts around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Will I Be Responsible For Transportation Throughout The Weekend?

The small group leaders will arrange transportation. They may need help Friday night, Saturday for the free-time activity, to and from church for the final session on Saturday night, and Sunday for drop off.

How Many Students Can Ride In My Car?

While this may seem obvious, you should not transport more people than you have seatbelts in your car. Thanks for your attention to this.

Can My High School Student Help With Transportation?

High school students, including high school leaders, are not allowed to drive during Walking Wisely Weekend (even if they are 18). However, college-aged students may drive and high school students can drive luggage if necessary.

How Much Food Do I Need To Buy?

Please see the “Sample Menu and Shopping List” for info on food. Middle Schoolers eat a lot!
