Week 6: Gifts

Monday: Watch

Answer These:

  1. How have you been blessed through someone using their gifts?
  2. What unique gifts do you believe God has given you?

Pray This:

Father, thank you for the way that you have created each and every one onf us. Thank you that you do not need any of us to accomplish your will, yet you give us each a role to play. Thank you for the gifts you have given us and for the ultimate gift in giving us your son, Jesus. Amen.

Tuesday: Read

As believers, we are all part of the body of Christ. As the body, we all have different roles to play based on the unique gifts and talents that The Lord gives to us. Some of us our eyes, while others of us are feet. We have certain roles and responsibilities to play in order to build up the church. All gifts are given by God and are to be used for His glory.

Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.

Answer These:

  1. What would happen if all believers had the same gifting?
  2. In what ways have you been able to use your unique gifting to build up the church?

Pray This:

Father, thank you for graciously allowing us to play a part in your story. Thank you that you have given each of us certain gifts that are to be used to edify one another in order t to build up the church. God, help us to see the ways you have uniquely made us and the gifts that you have given to each of us. Amen.

Wednesday: Pray

God gives believers spiritual gifts to be used to strengthen the church and bring glory to Himself. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 explains that the Holy Spirit works differently in each of us. We should not judge how God is working in someone else’s life and we definitely shouldn’t compare the gifts he has given to us to the gifts that other people have. The Holy Spirit works in us to serve God and others with the gifts He has given. The body of Christ, the church, benefits from the diversity in His creation.

*If you are not sure what gift you have been given, you will start by reading 1 Corinthians 12:4-6. Then, Pray that the Holy Spirit would help you to see the unique way you are gifted.

Then, pray:

  • Spend time praying that the Holy Spirit would help other believers see how they have been uniquely gifted.
  •  Pray that any pride that believers experience from having a certain gift would be stripped away and the glory would be rightly given to God.
  • Pray against any comparison you feel towards others and their gifting.
  • Pray for wisdom on how to use your gift in a way that serves others.

Answer These:

  1. When was a time that you compared your gifting to someone else?
  2. How have you used your gifting to serve someone else?

Pray This:

Father, it is so easy to look all around us to find our identity instead of being quick to go to you. Lord, I repent of the lies I have believed that I am only what others think or say about me. I pray I would remember what you say about me and rest assured in the identity you have given me as your child. There is nothing I do to earn or lose the identity you have given me. Remind me to look to you above all other things. Amen.

Thursday: Practice

God has given us spiritual gifts so that we can help each other (1 Corinthians 12:7). God has commanded each of you to use your gifts– somehow, some way, anywhere and at any time. Because your gifting is unique, there are needs that The Lord specifically places in front of you to meet.

We need each other’s gifts when we are weak, and others need our gifts when they are weak. This system creates a healthy dependency and reliance on our brothers and sisters in Christ in times of need. God planned it so that we use our spiritual gifts to help and encourage one another.

Today’s application requires some work. Go back to the guided prayer that you completed yesterday. What did the Holy Spirit bring to mind when you were praying for wisdom on how to use your gift? Now, do it!

Example: If you have the gift of encouragement, write an encouraging note to someone you know is having a tough season. Then, stick that note in their mailbox today.

Answer These:

  1. What keeps you from utilizing your spiritual gifts?
  2. How can you make using your spiritual gifts a regular part of your life?

Pray This:

Father, thank you that you allow us to use our gifts. Thank you for allowing us to meet needs for those that are around us. I pray that we would have more opportunities to use our gifts. I also pray that we would be marked with a boldness to use them, not for any of our own glory but all for your glory. Amen.

Friday: Reflect

Every good and perfect gift is from above. God gifts us and invites us to be a part of His story. Spend some time today listening to “From Whom All Blessings Flow” by Hillsong Worship. Pay attention to the lyrics of the song.

Answer These:

  1. What unique gifting do you have to offer to the kingdom of God?
  2. Are there times you have given glory to yourself instead of rightly to God?

Pray This:

Father, you are the giver of all gifts. There is nothing good that we can offer that isn’t from you. You deserve all the glory. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your work on earth. Help us remember that you deserve all the glory.  Amen.
