For 18 years, Southside has been my second home. It all started with my daughter-in-law. She knew I loved children and thought volunteering here would be a wonderful way to spend time with my grandkids. She was right, but it became so much more.
Walking into Waumba Land, I was immediately drawn to the love and care the volunteers showed the little ones. I started with the infants, then the crawlers, and finally found my place with the 1-year-olds. I’ve worked with five different Waumba Land directors, each one unique, but all sharing a deep passion for this ministry. They work so hard, often behind the scenes, pouring their hearts into making every Sunday special. It’s in Waumba Land where the seeds of faith are planted. We do more than just play and change diapers; we show these children God’s love through music and everything we do.
Even though Spanish is my first language, I’ve always felt welcomed here. My daughter-in-law’s support has meant the world to me. Now, I’m serving in UpStreet with the second graders. It’s another adventure! These kids teach me so much. The best part? Seeing children who grew up in Waumba Land now asking questions about God, participating in church, and even getting baptized. It makes my heart so happy.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be part of Southside Church. Being with the children is my passion, and I thank God for leading me here.
