There’s a story in the Bible of Jesus inviting himself to spend time with a man named Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus had a horrible reputation and had done terrible things. Jesus’ goal was not to judge or convict him but to spend time with him. Jesus did not bring Zacchaeus into a church or temple but met him in his home. Think about the last time you invited someone to dinner, on a walk, or for coffee who may be far from God. Think about the last time you reached out to someone who was struggling through a rough season and needed to know they were cared for. Often people will belong before they believe. Jesus gave us an example of this through his interaction with Zacchaeus, and that is exactly how we should treat others who are far from God.
Scripture: Luke 19:5 – When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to find the courage to spend time with people who are far from you.
