Proximity to outsiders puts you in a position to grow a relationship and, in that relationship, grow influence. It is hard to do that without being around people far from God. Think about fishing for a moment. If you were to take out a fishing rod, put bait on it while sitting on the couch, and cast your rod, you probably wouldn’t catch any fish. But if you were to take that same rod and bait to a lake and cast it, you would have a better chance of catching fish because you went to where the fish are. Influence with outsiders can only happen if we are close to those far from God.
